Here I am playing/improvising on Clifford Brown’s “Joy Spring” duo with one of my students after a W&M Jazz Ensemble rehearsal.
I remember playing duo with drummers a bunch my freshman year of college and that led to a whole lot of growth very quickly. It made me train my ears and my imagination, as well as my ability to follow and create structure within music.
I will always love performing (and shedding) in a duo setting…especially with drums! Now I get to pay it forward as a teacher.
